Brief
How to create immersive virtual spaces and intuitive interactions within them.
This workshop aims to combine technical knowledge with conceptual challenges that use virtual reality as an instrument to artistically explore human emotions. The project based workshop “‘In Dreams” aims towards the design of dreamlike environments that create a bridge between perception of reality and imagination. The goal of the each project is to offer a conscious exploration of dreams to the user by giving him/her the possibility to act and alter the narrative.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be introduced to the Unity game engine and learn how to create, implement and combine necessary assets (graphics, audio, scripts etc) in the creation of virtual environments for virtual reality platforms, and focus on the development challenges virtual reality arises. The workshop is divided in two educational categories: tutorials and project development.
Project:
The aim of the project development is to guide the participants through a process of structuring their ideas and creating a strategic framework. Furthermore, by forming groups of work each student will choose a domain of focus and learn about task management in terms of game development, leading to the creation of a completed project.

Brief
The principles of game development.
This workshop aims to combine technical knowledge with conceptual challenges where gaming becomes more than entertainment. At the project based workshop “Time Capsule”, we will create games that question the perception of time. The goal of each project is to challenge the player’s thinking by creating unorthodox and mind triggering puzzles, while exploiting common time-based game mechanics.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will be introduced to the Unity game engine and learn how to create, implement and combine necessary assets (graphics, audio, scripts etc) in the creation of virtual environments. The workshop is divided in two educational categories: tutorials and project development.

In this workshop participants will be introduced to visual design with vvvv with a focus on projection mapping. VVVV is an hybrid visual/textual live-programming environment for fast and easy prototyping and developing.
Participants
will be guided through the basics of the software and will then focus
on how to setup and design projection mappings.
At the end of the workshop participants will have learned how to create patches from scratch and how to project on unusual surfaces and geometries. The workshop aims to a final projection mapping project of 1:1 scale on a geometrically complex structure.

Creative coding and open software are powerful tools that enable people to deliver projects which derive from art, technology, science, sociology etc at the same time. Through this workshop we will use the above tools to create a unique environment that balances between the tangible and the intangible. We will learn the basic principles of interaction and immersive environments. By blending knowledge between software and hardware such as arduino, processing and 3d printing participants will manage to work on an holistic interactive project and exercise themselves on how to combine technology to produce creative applications. To reach this outcome, participants will be introduced to the Arduino platform and learn all the basics on how to use sensors in order to interact with their surroundings and provoke changes to it. Further down the line, they will be instructed on how to draw connections with visualization processes by using the Processing programming language. Finally they will be able to create customized parts with 3dPrinting fabrication method and build up a complete interactive project.
Tutorials and experimentation on electronics, coding, hardware and hands on experiments, will lead to the realization of the team's application.
Open to programmers, designers, design enthusiasts, artists, architects etc.

3-Day Workshop on Projection Mapping - experimental techniques that converts a surface, be it an object or a building, to a screen where the display content intervenes to the geometry of the physical object.
A. Projection Mapping Basics [9th - 11th May, 2014] Completed
B. Projection Mapping Extended [15th-18thMay, 2014] Completed
The aim of the Workshop is that participants familiarize themselves with various possible ways of projection mapping to overcome issues related to the geometry of the surface of projection. In order for the participants to acquire the minimum skills necessary to develop the first mapping, we will review several strategies of creating graphics that can be applied into 2D mapping. We will use layers, with advanced illustration and animation techniques as well as learn how to integrate 2D illustrations with lighting that derives from 3D software. In addition we will get deeper into conceptual analysis and the visual language through styles, emotions and graphic styles.
At the end of each workshop the participants will develop a 3D Projection mapping project from scratch having to decide on the prototype and structure, idea development, scenario, music, production techniques, presentation and project documentation. Participants will work in one group under the supervision of the tutors for the development of a collaborative project that will be exhibited in the gallery space of Space Under.
